 {"id":13445,"date":"2022-10-28T09:49:12","date_gmt":"2022-10-28T09:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zinebi.eus\/zinebi-industry\/zinebi-meetings\/homenaje-a-jean-luc-godard\/"},"modified":"2022-10-28T10:34:06","modified_gmt":"2022-10-28T10:34:06","slug":"homenaje-a-jean-luc-godard","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/zinebi.eus\/en\/zinebi-industry\/zinebi-meetings\/homenaje-a-jean-luc-godard\/","title":{"rendered":"TRIBUTE TO JEAN-LUC GODARD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jean-Luc Godard, the grand master of France\u2019s <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nouvelle Vague<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one of the most influential cinematographic movements in the History of Films, passed away on 13 September 2022 in Rolle, Switzerland \u2013 where he had lived for over four decades\u201d \u2013 \u201cpeacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones\u201d, aged 91.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Along with Jacques Rivette, Fran\u00e7ois Truffaut, Claude Chabrol, Agn\u00e8s Varda and \u00c9ric Rohmer, now also no more, Godard launched that <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Wave<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which shook up the way films were made all over the world. Not content with his role as the ideologist of this unrepeatable movement, Godard transformed his career into a tireless search for the frontiers of cinema: from the sixties, when he started off with some essential titles for the development of modern cinema \u2013<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Une femme est une femme<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1961), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vivre sa vie: Film en douze tableaux<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1962) or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le petit soldat<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1963)- which, as Dom\u00e8nec Font said, \u201cdocuments certain forms of the human condition and constitutes the most comprehensive X-ray of the signs of modernity and its conflicts\u201d, to a number of rebuttals and reinventions of himself, taking him and his pertinacious conviction down the path of militant cinema that was proud to turn its back on the industry \u2013 to wit, his works alongside the other members of the Dziga Vertov Group-; which led him to make an early stand for the video and defend at all times the virtues of the short film; and which opened up his work to essays through incomparable experiences such as his must-sees <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Histoire(s) du cin\u00e9ma<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1989-1999), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notre musique<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2004), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adieu au langage<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2014) or his last feature film, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le livre d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">image<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2018), created by a Godard now in poor health, accompanied by Jean-Paul Battaggia (responsible for the production design), the producer and director of photography Fabrice Aragno, and the university professor and writer Nicole Brenez, whom ZINEBI has the honour of presenting, two months after Godard\u2019s death, for her to provide an appraisal, in a master class open to the public, of the importance of the legacy he has left behind for those with an interest in the elusive work of the Franco-Swiss director.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_13454\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13454\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"792\" class=\"size-size_550 wp-image-13454 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/zinebi.eus\/assets\/media\/\/jean-luc_godard_par_philippe_doumic-550x786.jpg\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13454\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jean-Luc Godard (Photograph from Alamy)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<br>\r\n<p>Brenez is a professor of Film Studies at the Sorbonne Nouvelle \u2013 Paris 3 University, and has been director of the Analysis and Culture Department at the European Foundation for Image and Sound Professions (\u201cLa F\u00e9mis\u201d) since 2017, and curator of the Cine\u0301mathe\u0300que Franc\u0327aise\u2019s avant-garde film series since 1996. She has worked with, inter alia, Chantal Akerman (<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La folie Almayer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 2011), Jean-Gabriel P\u00e9riot (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Une jeunesse Allemande<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 2015), Oriane Brun-Moschetti (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salut &amp; Fraternit\u00e9<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 2015) and Jean-Luc Godard.
