 {"id":16301,"date":"2022-11-18T13:19:33","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T13:19:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zinebi.eus\/en\/news\/el-cine-colombiano-se-impone-en-la-64a-edicion-de-zinebi"},"modified":"2022-11-23T14:07:06","modified_gmt":"2022-11-23T14:07:06","slug":"el-cine-colombiano-se-impone-en-la-64a-edicion-de-zinebi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zinebi.eus\/en\/news\/el-cine-colombiano-se-impone-en-la-64a-edicion-de-zinebi","title":{"rendered":"COLOMBIAN FILMS WIN THROUGH AT THE 64th ZINEBI FESTIVAL"},"content":{"rendered":"The short animation film <strong><em>Todas mis cicatrices se desvanecen en el viento<\/em><\/strong> (2022, Colombia), directed by <strong>Ang\u00e9lica Restrepo<\/strong> and <strong>Carlos Velandia<\/strong>, took the Grand Prix at the 64<sup>th<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/zinebi.eus\/\"><strong>ZINEBI \u2013 International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao<\/strong><\/a>, a prize of 7,000 euros. The film staged its world premiere at the last International Animation Film Festival in Annecy (France), and the jury praised this short film for the way in which \u201cit allows viewers to travel through the time, space and sound of the memory\u2019s landscapes, guided by painful memories\u201d, which gradually fade over time.\r\n\r\nThe main awards in the <strong>Official Section \u2013 International Short Film Competition<\/strong> were rounded off by the <strong>Grand Award of Basque Cinema<\/strong>, which went to the documentary produced at San Sebasti\u00e1n\u2019s Elias Querejeta Zine Eskola, <strong><em>Wild Flowers<\/em><\/strong> (Karla Crn\u010devi\u0107, 2022), for its \u201ccourageous and honest\u201d questions on memory; and to the <strong>Best Spanish Short Film<\/strong>, awarded by the jury to the documentary <strong><em>Olores<\/em><\/strong> (Alba Esquinas, 2022), \u201ca well-rounded piece, in which brutality and tenderness go hand in hand\u201d in a film which \u201cstands out for precise use of resources\u201d.\r\n\r\nA total of <strong>57 short films competed in this year\u2019s ZINEBI<\/strong>, during which the Mikeldi Prizes were awarded by genres: to the best short fiction film for the Franco-German co-production <strong><em>Backflip<\/em><\/strong> (Nikita Diakur, 2022), the best short animation film to the Hispano-Brazilian co-production <strong><em>Searching Heleny<\/em><\/strong> (Esther Vital Garc\u00eda, 2022) and to the best short documentary film to the Serbian-Slovenian co-production <strong><em>Balls<\/em><\/strong> (Gorana Jovanovi\u0107, 2022).\r\n\r\nAdditionally, this is the second year that ZINEBI has chosen a short film as a candidate for the Best Short Film of the year for the <strong>European Film Academy Awards<\/strong>, and the work chosen by the jury was the German short animation film <strong><em>Zoon<\/em><\/strong> (Jonatan Schwenk, 2022).\r\n\r\nThe names of the short film prizewinners were announced by the jury panel for this section, which this year featured Romanian film programmer <strong>Anca Caramelea<\/strong>, the director of the International Short Film Festival of Oberhausen (Germany) <strong>Hilke Doering<\/strong>, Colombian editor, director and archivist <strong>Juan Soto Taborda<\/strong>, writer <strong>Sabina Urraca<\/strong>, and the doctor of Fine Arts and animation director <strong>Bego\u00f1a Vicario.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n<strong><u>OFFICIAL SECTION \u2013 ZIFF \u2013 ZINEBI INTERNATIONAL FIRST FILM COMPETITION<\/u><\/strong>\r\n\r\nTurning to the largest prize in the Official Section \u2013 12,000 euros \u2013 for the best <em>opera prima<\/em> in the ZIFF \u2013 ZINEBI International First Film Competition, the winner was <strong><em>Anhell69<\/em><\/strong>. This is a Colombian production with Romanian, French and German assistance, and within the last three months director <strong>Theo Montoya<\/strong> had already won special mention at the <strong>Venice International Critics\u2019 Week <\/strong>and the Golden Dove at German festival <strong>DOK Leipzig<\/strong>.\r\n\r\nMontoya had already been a contender in the 2020 ZINEBI International Short Film Competition with the documentary <em>Son of Sodom<\/em>, the forerunner of the feature film which won this year\u2019s award.\r\n\r\nThe verdict of the jury, composed of Serbian artist and film director <strong>Marta Popivoda<\/strong>, the editor of <em>Cineman\u00eda<\/em> magazine <strong>Carlos Mara\u00f1\u00f3n,<\/strong> and French programmer, university professor and writer <strong>Nicole Brenez<\/strong>, celebrated the splendid health of modern filmmaking in Colombia, and in <em>Anhell69<\/em> they specifically remarked on its \u201cbrilliant poetic structure\u201d and its \u201cspectacular formal and inventive hybridisation\u201d.\r\n\r\nThe three members of the jury panel also gave a Special Mention to the documentary <strong><em>Nuestra Pel\u00edcula<\/em><\/strong> (Colombia-France), by director <strong>Diana Bustamante<\/strong> (the European premiere was hosted by ZINEBI), \u201cfor its brave approach to Colombia\u2019s historical reality with brilliant editing in which the use of images brings us to a new dimension in which the victims of violence are remembered and respected\u201d.\r\n\r\nThe<strong> ZIFF Youth Jury Award (UPV\/EHU)<\/strong> of 2,000 euros went to <strong><em>How to Save a Dead Friend<\/em><\/strong> by Marusya Syroechkovskaya.\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n<strong><u>OTHER PRIZES<\/u><\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe <strong>EITB Audience Award<\/strong> of 3,000 euros went to <strong><em>Searching Heleny (Cad\u00ea Heleny?)<\/em><\/strong> by<strong> Esther Vital Garc\u00eda <\/strong>(Spain-Brazil).\r\n\r\nThe 2,000 euro FAS Cineclub Award for the best short film contenders in the Bertoko Begiradak \u2013 Views from the Basque Country section went to <strong><em>Espera y sedimento<\/em><\/strong> (Hold On &amp; Sediment \u2013 Basque Country, 2022), by Tana Garrido Ruiz.\r\n\r\nFinally, the UNICEF Award went to the fiction film <strong><em>Son of the Sun<\/em><\/strong> (Kyrgyzstan, 2022), by Dastan Madalbekov.\r\n\r\nThe <strong>Festival Closing Gala<\/strong>, headed up by Mar\u00eda Goiricelaya and Ane Pikaza (La Dram\u00e1tica Errante), will be held this afternoon <strong>at 19:30 h in the Arriaga Theatre<\/strong>, with a screening afterwards of the short films which won prizes in the Official ZINEBI 64 Awards. And<strong> tomorrow, Saturday 19 November, <\/strong>the Arriaga Theatre will provide the chance to see the prizewinning films again <strong>at 18:00 h<\/strong>.\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n<strong><u>ZINEBI INDUSTRY AWARDS<\/u><\/strong>\r\n\r\nFrom 14 to 18 November, ZINEBI 64 and the Association of Basque Producers (EPE-APV), funded by the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), the European Union-NextGenerationEU, EITB, with the support of Europa Creativa Desk MEDIA Euskadi and the Zineuskadi Association (Basque Government), staged the fifth round of <strong>ZINEBI NETWORKING: Dokumentalen Sorgunea<\/strong>, <strong>the V Documentary Film Professional Forum of Bilbao<\/strong>, an initiative seeking to boost up-and-coming creativity in documentary cinema in the Basque Country and in the State.\r\n\r\nFor the first time, thanks to the collaboration of the ICAA and the European Union, the Forum staged two competitions, each with a<strong> 10,000 euro aid package <\/strong>for the winning production: one for Basque documentary feature films, where the jury chose <strong><em>Ziku\u00f1agako Ama<\/em><\/strong> (Pello Guti\u00e9rrez Pe\u00f1alba), by producer Zazpi T\u2019erdi; and another for State productions, which was won by <strong><em>Elena dio a luz a un hermoso ni\u00f1o<\/em><\/strong> (Chiara Mara\u00f1\u00f3n &amp; Juan Soto), by producer LaCima Producciones, S. L.\r\n\r\nThis year ZINEBI Networking has two strategic international allies \u2013 <strong>Cannes Docs<\/strong> \u2013 the major documentary meeting point in the world\u2019s most important film festival\u2019s <strong>March\u00e9 du Film<\/strong> \u2013 and the <strong>Scottish Documentary Institute<\/strong>.\r\n\r\nThis year ZINEBI also included the \u201cAukera\u201d Awards, each carrying a 3,000 prize for a short film project.
