ZINEBI \u2013 International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao <\/strong>\u2013 organised by Bilbao Town Hall, with the assistance of the Basque Government, the Bizkaia Provincial Council and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport\u2019s Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts \u2013 ICAA \u2013 is joining in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the birth of Basque director and designer Iv\u00e1n Zulueta<\/strong>, director and scriptwriter of cult film Arrebato, one of the most iconic exponents of underground cinema.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

This is why ZINEBI will be screening all the material retrieved and 4K-digitalised by Filmoteca Espa\u00f1ola from Iv\u00e1n Zulueta\u2019s own archives, which had still not been released until just under a year ago. With the title A\/Z Zulueta in\u00e9dito<\/em>, this is a total of almost eight hours of material which was thought to be lost, or the existence of which there were practically no records. Their timeframe covers five decades: from the 1930s, when the films were being shot by Iv\u00e1n\u2019s parents, up to the late 1980s.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

In view of the quantity of material to be viewed, ZINEBI has decided to include only the last of the screenings of this cycle curated by Josetxo Cerd\u00e1n Los Arcos and Miguel Fern\u00e1ndez Labayen<\/strong> during the 65th Festival (specifically, Wednesday 15 November), and the rest will be screened at the Golem Alh\u00f3ndiga Cinemas one week before ZINEBI officially begins.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The films by Cerd\u00e1n Los Arcos and Fern\u00e1ndez Labayen, \u201cLas pel\u00edculas de Consuelo y Antonio\u201d, (they include one of the first domestic short films shot by the young Iv\u00e1n, but starring the director\u2019s parents, Consuelo Vergarajauregui Ubarrechena and Antonio de Zulueta y Besson), \u201cAloha\u201d (a reference to the Zulueta family\u2019s mansion overlooking San Sebasti\u00e1n\u2019s bay on Paseo Duque de Baena) and \u201cLa celebraci\u00f3n de la carne\u201d (a programme featuring a number of encounters with sexuality with its many and varied manifestations) can be viewed on 2 November<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

On 3 November<\/strong> there will be a screening of the programmes \u201cFugas y escapadas\u201d (including material shot by Iv\u00e1n Zulueta in Morocco, California and Paris), \u201cViaje al final de la noche\u201d (which retrieves footage of fiestas with girl friends and acquaintances, including Cecilia Roth, Luis Cobos, Javier Gurruchaga, Vicente Ameztoy, Jaime Stinus, Juan Cruz Unzurrunzaga and Antonio Gasset, among many others) and \u201cAlrededor de Arrebato\u201d (in which Zulueta portrays ideas and feelings developed when he was preparing the best remembered of his films).<\/p>\r\n\t\r\n

TRABAJAR CON (Y DESDE) EL ARCHIVO<\/h6><\/div>\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n

The last session in the cycle will also be screened at the Golem Alh\u00f3ndiga cinemas on 15 November, as part of the 65th ZINEBI programme. This is called \u201cApuntes y bocetos\u201d, and it includes material shot by Zulueta between 1969 and 1987.<\/p>\r\n\r\nThis last screening will be put on after the encounter on the same day arranged by ZINEBI, Trabajar con (y desde) el archivo<\/em>, to publicise and showcase the work of organisations which classify, research and retrieve audiovisual heritage material. It will be attended by the director of Filmoteca Espa\u00f1ola Valeria Camporesi<\/strong>; the co-curator of A\/Z Zulueta in\u00e9dito<\/em> Miguel Fern\u00e1ndez Labayen<\/strong>; the main researcher on the joint research project with the El\u00edas Querejeta Zine Eskola School (EQZE) in the ZINEBI deposit at Filmoteca Vasca Santiago Aguilar; the filmmaker and academic director of EQZE Carlos Muguiro; the advisor of the San Sebasti\u00e1n Film Festival archive project Pablo La Parra P\u00e9rez<\/strong>; and Pablo Maravi <\/strong>and Libe Belandia<\/strong>, representing the research project VideoFlux (UPV\/EHU \u2013 University of the Basque Country)<\/strong>, focusing on the Basque videoart audiovisual archives.\r\n\r\n

PLENA PAUSA<\/h6><\/div>\r\n

The tribute to Iv\u00e1n Zulueta will conclude on 18 November at the Arriaga Theatre<\/strong>, with a live performance by J from Los Planetas<\/strong>, who will be presenting the Basque Country premiere of Plena Pausa, the musicalisation project for part of the Gipuzkoa director\u2019s film archives, to be screened by ZINEBI. All film material is unchanged, just as it was found in Iv\u00e1n Zulueta\u2019s archives, with the exception of some excerpts from Londres nocturno, Pel\u00edculas familiares (a\u00f1os 30 y 40) and Pel\u00edculas familiares (a\u00f1os 50)<\/em>, which form part of the archives, but were not shot by Zulueta, and were edited for the occasion by filmmaker Andr\u00e9s Duque<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the birth of Iv\u00e1n Zulueta, vinyl, CD and DVD editions of Plena Pausa<\/em> went on sale on 29 September \u2013 the debut album of the leader of the historical Granada band Los Planetas, to be presented at the Arriaga Theatre.
