Encounter with Albert Serra
Albert Serra, the third winner of an Mikeldi of Honour Award at this ZINEBI event, will be at a public encounter in Bilbao with Cecilia Barrionuevo, former director of the International Mar del Plata Film Festival (Argentina) and current member of the assessment committee at the Film Study Center in Harvard University (United States).
The Catalan director, a leading name in contemporary cinema, has won acclaim at festivals such as Cannes – Special Jury Award in the Section Un certain regard for Liberté (2021)-, Marseilles – Prize for Best Film for Roi Soleil (2018)- or Locarno – Golden Leopard for best film for Història de la meva mort (2013)-, among many others. His last feature film, shot in French Polynesia, Pacifiction (2022), was a contender in the Official Section at the last Cannes Festival.
For his encounter with the public in Bilbao, Serra has chosen to screen one of his lesser known films, Cubalibre (2013), created during the dOCUMENTA(13) by Kassel, in which the band MOLFORTS (featuring Ferran Font, Marc Verdaguer, Joe Robinson and Enrique Juncà) compose the sound track for a tribute to Rainer Werner Fassbinder and one of his favourite actors: Günter Kaufmann, whom he worked with on films such as Götter der Pest (1970), Whity (1971) or Querelle (1982).
