Zinebi 68

Zinebi 68 graphic campaign

In 1905, Francisco Durrio won the contest run by Bilbao City Council to create the Monument to Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga. The project experienced delays and setbacks, but the sculpture was finally erected in Doña Casilda Iturrizar Park in 1933. After an eventful history, it can now be seen in the Arriaga Atrium in the new and extended Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, which has recently opened. The work – consisting of the figure and the pedestal which also serves as a fountain in the Modernist style – was conceived as muse to inspire the arts and holds a lyre as a nod to music.

The Zinebi68 poster is reminiscent of the 1920s in style, the time at which Durrio was working on his monument. The black and gold pairing captures a palette inherent to Art Deco, where the lyre has been replaced by a film reel as a nod to filmmaking. A new muse for the world of cinema that offers a free rein to imagination, drives new ideas and is ready for action. A visual reference that connects us to Bilbao, the Festival’s seat at the Arriaga Theatre and showcases us to the world.
