With more than a century of tradition behind it, the Czech school is held to be one of the pioneers of animated cinema. After both of them had won awards in the short film category at the first Cannes Film Festival (1946), Jiří Trnka and Karel Zeman smashed the Walt Disney monopoly and made Czech animation a competitor in terms of quality and innovation over the next four decades.
The programme ZINEBI has selected for its Czech Focus aims, on the one hand, to give audiences the chance to revisit the work of leading filmmakers (Jiří Trnka, Karel Zeman, Hermína Týrlová, Jiří Barta, Jiří Brdečka, Bořivoj Zeman, Břetislav Pojar and Jan Švankmajer) through short animated films now regarded as world cinema classics, and on the other, to showcase a series of short films produced over the past decade (2016–2025) — most of them directed by women — that have been selected and won awards at major international festivals (Annecy, Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Sundance and Clermont-Ferrand), showing that the tradition of animation in the Czech Republic is still very much alive, with a bright future ahead.

The passion for high speed can nowadays almost be seen in the new-born. The film shows that such passion, if not controlled, is self-destructing and even suicidal. At least this is the way Trnka presents it in this satiric story.
