For decades now, ZINEBI has awarded the honorary prize known as the Mikeldi of Honour to leading filmmakers and professionals in recognition of their lifetime achievement and the importance of their work in the film industry. The Mikeldi of Honour has allowed ZINEBI to showcase to the Bilbao audiences part of the work and their creative processes of the prize-winners, from Barbara Kopple (2000), Ennio Morricone (2001) and Richard Lester (2008) to the Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne brothers (in 2020), and not forgetting Liliana Cavani (2011), Aki Kaurismäki (2015), Hirokazu Kore-eda (2014), Marco Bellocchio (2017), Apichatpong Weerasethakul (2018), Claire Simon (2019) Márta Mészáros (2019), Margarethe von Trotta (2021), Agnieszka Holland (2022) or Albert Serra (2022).
