Mariu Benzo
Born in Mexico City and raised in the Dominican Republic from an early age, she holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) and a Master’s in Screenwriting from the Chavón Design School. She has worked in production and art departments on various audiovisual projects, and in 2022 joined the Republic’s General Directorate of Cinema (DGCINE), where she helped internationalise Dominican cinema and coordinated the DEENTAL (CNC) and EURODOC programmes in the Caribbean. She completed a Master’s in Creative Documentary at the UAB, where she co-directed Cabaret Is Not Dead, premiered at In-Edit Barcelona 2025. She is currently working on the documentary De qué hablo cuando hablo de lipo, winner of the Dominican Republic’s 2024 FONPROCINE grant.
