ZINEBI – International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao is the only international Class A festival in Spain in the documentary and short film category recognised by FIAPF since 1974. ZINEBI is built on more than 65 years of history and takes place in Bilbao every year in November.
ZINEBI is a festival that firmly supports emerging authors. The International Short Film (documentary, animation and fiction) contest is our sign of identity. Every year, we also screen carefully selected feature documentary films at Beautiful Docs. We also promote the audiovisual industry from the Basque Country exhibiting a rich selection of Basque short and feature films at Bertoko Begiradak section. Yet, our commitment with Basque and Spanish film industry is developed through ZINEBI Networking, with a wide range of industry talks, conference and meetings.
ZINEBI also features Mikeldis of Honour, awarded to acknowledge the careers of distinguished directors like Laura Poitras, Frederick Wiseman, Albert Serra, Agnieszka Holland, Margarethe von Trotta, Marco Bellocchio, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, Claire Simon, Wang Bing, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Marta Mészáros, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Liliana Cavani, Barbara Kopple, Imanol Uribe, Carlos Saura, Rita Azevedo Gomes or Aki Kaurismäki, among others.
