The winner of the Honorific Mikeldi Award at the 66th International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao, ZINEBI, is José Luis Alcaine, one of the most acclaimed directors of photography in the history of Spanish cinema, winner of five Goya awards between 1990 and 2008, and renowned operator in films by Almodóvar (with whom he worked from Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios to his latest film, Extraña forma de vida), Fernando Fernán Gómez, Fernando Trueba and Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón. Beyond state borders he has worked with Brian de Palma, Adolfo Aristarain, Alberto Lattuada and Luis Puenzo.
For this year’s ZINEBI Networking, Alcaine has prepared a master class taking a look at some of the major milestones in the history of cinema from the perspective of a photography director who considers himself an admirer of Gregg Toland, Gianni Di Venanzo and Gordon Willis, among many others.
