Bilbao, 20 September 2023. ZINEBI – International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao – organised by Bilbao Town Hall, with the assistance of the Basque Government, the Bizkaia Provincial Council and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport’s Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts – ICAA – has presented the image of the 65th festival, devised by Clara Briones and Antton Ugarte, the creative twosome who founded Vedia Design Studio, based in Bilbao.
They based the image of the 65th festival on “an iconic symbol universally recognised by photography and film enthusiasts”, the focus of a camera (which gives the campaign its name, enfoque), a tool available to audiovisual creation, allowing creators to direct viewers’ attention towards certain aspects of their work. In this case, the campaign visualises the focus of a camera lens and its effect on texts, photographs, images and illustrations as a “visual metaphor of creativity and the perspective that is unique to each director and filmmaker, since every film is an artistic personal vision of the world”.
As explained by Briones and Ugarte, “this is how we express the creative approach and the infinite possibilities of visual narration, by means of a graphic tool which explains the essence and the ability to catch viewers’ attention”.
THE AUTHORS
After a packed life in design and advertising studios in Bilbao, Clara Briones and Antton Ugarte set up Vedia Design Studio. Fervent in their passion for branding, typography and publishing projects, they work on colour as a tool to create visual impact and individuality, and also as a vehicle to communicate by arousing emotions. Their work is a celebration of design as a profession and as an addiction, and it has enabled them to present their talent to companies such as Harper Collins, Belverdere and Onay, film producers such as Doxa, Katz Estudio and Zerikusi, festivals such as Sierra Sonora, BBK Open Science and Tribu, and on projects in association with Angelica Barco, Marina Goñi, La Tapadera and Last Tour.
