ZINEBI – International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao, organised by Bilbao Town Hall, will be premiering the documentary Izaro: limoiari eztia / Reivindicar la ternura, co-directed by composer Izaro Andrés and Ander Merino. The event will be at Sala BBK on Monday 14 November at 18:00 h, along with the singer from Mallabia who stars in the film.

The film is part of the “Bertoko Begiradak – Miradas desde Euskadi” section of the 64th ZINEBI Festival from 11 to 18 November, screening a total of 116 short films, four medium-length films and 28 feature films.

 

SPECIAL SESSIONS

In addition to film screenings, the Festival will feature other scenic events in which music will be the keynote, all part of ZINEBI’s special sessions.

On Saturday 12 November at 20:00 h in Sala Bilborock, with free admittance until full capacity has been reached, the project directed by Igor Rezola Iztueta and Juan Pablo Ordúñez / MawatreS Ez bultza egin!. This is a combination of film, music and art, based on the French film La haine (Mathieu Kassovitz, 1995 – Hate), starring Vincent Cassel, Hubert Koundé and Saïd Taghmaoui.

Ez bultza egin! is an exercise in collective revision, rereading and reinterpretation of the film as a contemporary cultural and artistic production. It will feature Sevilla’s experimental duo Los Voluble (seen recently at the Reina Sofía Art Centre National Museum and the Sónar), and also other artistess and groups such as the MC and hip-hop producer Dano, Beñat Krolem, Maria Muriedas + Iñaki Billelabeitia, Adrián Romero and Miguel Espiga + Raúl Jiménez.

On Thursday 17 November, at 21:00 h, free admittance at Sala Bilborock for Martian Civilization A/V show, live electronic music and visuals by Bilbao musician and producer Zabala, defined as “the original sound track of a film that doesn’t exist”.

Jon Aguirrezabalaga (WAS) brought out a futuristic track in 2020 with tunes “of frozen beauty and atmospheric landscapes” to round off ZINEBI with a special live session, with the visual material created by Mikel Aguirrezabalaga, along with shorts of the video clips by Rafa Zubiría and Asier Bueno and also material specially created for the occasion, with a concept based on a futuristic dystopia on the red planet. After Zabala’s show, the night will move on with DJ Lorea Argarate.

 

LIVE MUSIC

Live music will also be a feature of the ZINEBI inauguration and closing ceremonies, at the Arriaga Theatre, like every year. The first (11 November at 19:30 h) will be a live slot by Basque group Merina Gris, with a first record of what they call “violent pop”, called “Zerua orain”, which is also a feature of their versions EP, “Gureak Ez Zirenak”. After their performance at the ZINEBI inauguration ceremony, they will continue with a tour taking the group to Barcelona, Madrid, Rotterdam and Groningen, among other venues.

GHAU, a project by Gartxot Unsain, will provide the music for the ZINEBI closing ceremony (18 November at 19:30 h), along with the prizegiving.
